America First – let the patriotism rush in and be thankful for what we have while looking back at how we got it.

Before we start our July 4th fireworks and celebrations let us take a look back in history and feel proud. Thomas Jefferson the name which is written in history. Or perhaps the man who made history. Someone who shall always be recorded as the great and always discussed in golden words. Someone who’s name will never be forgotten for as long as United States of America exists. It was Thomas Jefferson who drafted the Declaration of Independence. Which on 2nd July 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favour of and two days later 13 colonies delegates adopted the same declaration. It was not just Thomas Jefferson who did all the efforts it took many more heroes who helped us take a land that we currently live in.

Glimpse of the history:

When the Continental Congress met on June 7 at the Pennsylvania State House (later Independence Hall) in Philadelphia. It was Richard Henry Lee of the Virginia delegate who introduced the motion that called for colonies independence. After which a five-man committee was formed and Thomas Jefferson was part of that. This committee had to justify the break with Great Britain in the form of a formal statement.

Finally on July 2nd near-unanimously the Continental Congress voted in the favour of resolution the Lee presented.

Thomas Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Independence on a “laptop,” which was a writing desk that could fit on one’s lap.

It was 4th of July when Declaration of Independence was formally adopted by the Continental Congress. Which became the day of the birth of American independence. However this day was marked as the federal holiday in United States since 1941.  Nonetheless history also tells us that the celebrations goes way back to American Revolution and 18th Century.

Remembering Our Heroes:

We all celebrate this day with all the pride and patriotism added to that is the enthusiasm and celebrations that we do. This day when we are having our BBQ or waiting for the fireworks to start. Perhaps a discussion is started when in a group, it would be very unjust to not remember our heroes and thank them. Discussing our heroes can take years and yet we could not mention all. Which is why in no particular we have decided to mention a few heroes that have won the Medal of Honor. A medal which takes a lot of bravery, courage, strength and high will power to achieve the greatness and perform extraordinary for the country and its citizens.

  • Captain John P. Cromwell – WW2 – Navy

When you can opt an easier and alternate option, but you choose to take the hard and difficult path. Just to make sure that the people living in your country and the secret of your country are kept save. The name that quickly comes to mind is Captain John P. Cromwell.

He was a senior leader of the Navy’s submarine efforts in WW2. When he knew he could be captured and the enemies would take every possible step to take out the information. He came with the unthinkable Captain John P. Cromwell suck his submarine but did not give in to the hands of the enemies.

  • Col Thomas Custer – Civil War – Army

One of the only Americans to ever win two Medal of Honor, that too at the age of only 20.

  • Private Billie G. Kanell – Korea – Army

Bravery has nothing to do with rank and Private Billie G. Kanell proved that very right. The enemies threw a grenade near him and without hesitating he jumped onto it. To make sure his friends are save. It was a miracle that he survived but was in deep pain. Few minutes later another grenade was thrown the result being same. He again without thinking about himself jumped onto it and saved his friends. However this time he could not manage to survive and got killed.

The Pennsylvania Evening Post was the first newspaper to print the Declaration on July 6, 1776.
